Personal hygiene during pregnancy
As an expectant mother, you need to be careful about every aspect of your life, including your food, lifestyle and sleep. Improper hygiene may put your baby at an increased risk of developing infections. Right now, your developing baby is more vulnerable and weak. In most severe cases, it may also result in severe health problems in the baby. Chronic exposure to toxins and other harmful agents during pregnancy could also lead to certain malformations in the baby. Hence, the need for personal hygiene during pregnancy. Personal Hygiene
Personal hygiene is undoubtedly the most important factor you must pay attention to during your pregnancy:
- Have a bath regularly.
- Keepthe pubic area clean and hair-free to prevent any genital infections that may also harm your baby.
- Use plain and unperfumed soaps to clean your private parts_this helps maintain the pH levels.
- Choose fabrics that are easy to wear, soft and comfortable throughout your pregnancy period.
- Avoid soaking in a bathtub. Instead, use a bucket and a mug or use a shower during your pregnancy period.
The current evidence is that the fetal alcohol syndrome may occur if and pregnant woman drinks in excess of six drinks a day. Because of this, pregnant women should avoid alcohol.
Breast
Care of breasts in pregnancy helps the establishment of breastfeeding. The nipples should be stroked and drawn out gently for about 2 minutes a day from early pregnancy. This manipulation is thought to keep the ducts of the breasts open, although not all doctors agree on this.
Exercise
An average woman takes a reasonable amount of exercise, and can continue to take it in pregnancy. Exercise in pregnancy has several benefits. Some women find that exercise increase their body awareness. Others use exercise to increase their muscle and joint flexibility. Still, some exercise to prevent backache. Exercise is beneficial if used sensibly.
Fatigue
Many women find that they get tired more easily or in most cases, sleep for long in the second half of pregnancy. This feeling increases as the end of pregnancy is near. Different women find different ways of coping with fatigue. Some rest, others go to bed early. We recommend that, one should try to work out the best method of coping under fatigue.
Frequent urination
Irritability of the bladder is quite common in early pregnancy, and occur again in the last weeks when the baby's head presses into the pelvis. Nothing much can be done about it, except to pass urine more often. However, if urination is associated with pain, the expectant mother should consult her doctor.
